Mandatory Profile Fields based on Role Membership

I have a requirement where I want a profile field to be mandatory only if the member is in a specific role.

Reading the docs I can't see an obvious way to do this directly on the field, is this possible?

I do see that you can create categories for the profile fields and you seem to be able to restrict these categories to being visible only to certain roles - if I put my fields I want to become mandatory in a category and restricted it to that role would this achieve the same thing? (I assume any existing member would only be prompted to fill the field when they next edited their profile?)

Hi,

that is not possible now. You can only set the profile field mandatory for all users.

Within version 4.2 it's possible to set a profile field only mandatory for registration. But that is not what you want.
